Edinburgh is home to many excellent garden centres which are found throughout the city. They offer a wide range of gardening products as well as essential equipment.

These centres have many other facilities on site including other garden related businesses, children's entertainment, food halls and eateries.

Riccarton Garden Centre

Situated on Riccarton Mains Road in Currie and within 500m of the Curriehill railway station, this centre is open Monday to Saturday, from 09:00 - 18:00 as well as Sundays, from 10:00 - 17:00.

Riccarton stocks many varieties of plants, trees and flowers as well as gardening accessories. The centre has an excellent coffee shop which provides light breakfast and lunches daily. Free Wi-Fi is available for all patrons.

To reach the centre, take the Service 45 Lothian bus which stops right outside. If you are travelling by car, take the A71 off the A720 at the City of Edinburgh bypass, then take the Riccarton Mains Road exit. Ample parking is available, check out their Facebook page.

With a proud and distinguished history, Dobbies has 35 garden centres throughout the United Kingdom. The branch in Lasswade, Edinburgh is considered their flagship. It is the largest garden centre in Scotland. It is open from 09:00 - 20:00 on weekdays and 09:00 - 18:00 over weekends.

Together with the exceptional nursery, Dobbies has many trade partners sharing their premises. These include Garden Building Centre, Direct Gardens, Shaws Fine Meats, Cotton Traders and the Edinburgh Woolen Mill. Other facilities at Dobbies include numerous eateries, farm shops, bakeries, a delicatessen, liquor sales, a cooking equipment shop, children's play area, picnic area and a car wash.

The centre is located around 6 miles south of the Edinburgh CBD, near many main thoroughfares including the A720 and the A7. For those wanting to travel to Dobbies Edinburgh by Lothian bus, a stop is available right outside

Situated in Mortonhall, Klondykes Edinburgh forms part of a chain of garden centres found throughout the United Kingdom. Klondykes pride themselves on quality, affordable products which can be found in abundance. The centre is open from 09:00 - 18:00 on Mondays-Wednesdays/Fridays/Saturdays, 9:00 - 19:30 on Thursday and 10:00 - 18:00 on Sundays.

An extensive range of seeds, plants, trees as well as shrubs are available along with garden supplies, garden equipment, leisure equipment, pet supplies, oak furniture, gift ideas, gift cards and gardening books. Other onsite facilities include the Topiary coffee shop, which offers light meals, as well as Oxbox Kitchen & Bathrooms.

The garden centre is situated on Frogston Road East (B701). This road runs directly parallel to the A720 city bypass. Ample free parking is available. The Klondykes Garden Centre can also be reached using route 11 of the Lothian bus service.

Mayshade Garden Centre

Mayshade, situated in Midlothian, enjoys a rich 30 year history of serving the gardeners of the city. The site itself was redeveloped in 2002 into the thoroughly modern centre it is today.

It is open Monday to Saturday from 07:30 - 17:00 or on Sundays from 10:00 - 17:00. It stocks all the desires of a gardeners heart; bedding plants of every variety including trees, herbs, shrubs, perennials as well as gardening equipment, tools, fertilizers and plant food. For those wanting to make an extended outing to Mayshade, a visit to the Orchard café is a must. This café has won numerous awards and has a large range of seasonal meals to suit every taste. For fresh fish lovers, be sure not to miss out on Tuesday visits by James Dickinson & Sons who sell only the freshest Scottish fish available!

Mayshade Garden Centre is located on Eskbank Road, near the A7 Edinburgh Road roundabout. Ample parking is available if you choose to visit by car, although the No. 40 or 49 bus stop right outside.

Merryhatton Garden Centre

Merryhatton, located in the East Lothian district, around 25 miles from Edinburgh has been in operation for over 30 years. The centre is open from 09:00 - 17:30 every day.

Merryhatton specialize in all things garden related from plants, trees, shrubs or seeds to garden furniture or any piece of gardening equipment you might ever need. Purchased goods can be delivered by a same day delivery service which operates in the surrounding area. Staff will also happily assemble any garden furniture that you have purchased.

The café at the garden centre is well known for its delicious light meals, prepared from scratch each day using only local ingredients. A well-stocked food hall also provides all manner of produce, both from local sources as well as from throughout the United Kingdom.

Merryhatton is situated on the B1347 road. To reach the centre from Edinburgh, take the A1 south out of the city, exiting at Abbotsview Junction. From there, take the second exit at the next roundabout onto East Linton on the A199. Merryhatton Garden Centre signage can be found from this point onwards.

Situated in Armadale in West Lothian, this family run centre incorporates its own nursery where all the plants and other flora available for purchase, are grown. The centre is open 7 days a week but at varying times, depending on the season. Summer opening times are: Monday/Thursday from 09:00 - 20:00, Tuesdays/Wednesdays /Fridays from 09:00 - 18:00, Saturday from 09:00 - 17:00 and Sunday from 10:00 - 17:00. In winter, the centre closes slightly earlier.

A huge selection of plants are available, especially trees of many varieties including dwarf conifers, Japanese acers as well as evergreens. An on-site shop offers all other additional products from compost/fertilizers to weed control products, birdfeed and bird feeders. All purchases over £150 can be delivered free of charge to the surrounding areas of Falkirk, Central Belt and West Lothian.

Mill Garden Centre is situated south west of Edinburgh, roughly 20 miles away. The easiest way to reach it by vehicle is to travel on the M8, turning right onto the A801 then left into Bathgate road and finally right into Mill road. A number of bus stops are found in the area, most notably at Honeyman Court or Avondale Drive, both around 0.3 miles from the centre itself.

With over 30 years trade experience, New Hopetoun Gardens, situated in Newton Village, West Lothian, have a team dedicated to helping customers setup the perfect garden. The centre is open from 10:00 - 17:30 every day except Wednesday, when it stays open till 19:30.

At the centre, emphasis is placed on guiding customers through the growth process of the plants they purchase. This includes having full grown versions of each plant onsite. Staff also pride themselves on their ability to turn even the smallest urban space into a remarkable garden.

Other facilities on-site include the Orangey Tea Room, serving light lunches, soups, coffee, tea and sweet treats. The centre also has an extensive gift shop with gifts for those with green fingers as well as those without!

New Hopetoun Gardens are located west of Edinburgh, roughly a 25 minute trip by car using the A904 out of the city, located off the A90. The closest bus station is found at Abercorn Road End around 0.4 miles away.
